Resumo: Energy storage systems plays a crucial role in the expansion of intermittent renewable sources in the search for a more sustainable energy matrix, since it enable this evolution to occur safely and reliably. In this context and with special attention to the increasing numbers of residential systems of distributed generation in Brazil observed in recent years, it is understood that the investigation of the trajectory and trends in the residential storage of electricity is essential to boost the advancement of these systems, and the Roadmap is an instrument that favors a comprehensive view that is necessary to understand the conjuncture and guide this development. Thus, inserted in the strategic project PD-2866-0462/2016 – “Small Residential Batteries Integrated with the HEM and GLD concept”, that answers the call 21/2016 of ANEEL, “Technical and Commercial Arrangements for the Insertion of Energy Storage Systems in the Brazilian Electrical Sector”, the Federal University of Santa Maria along with the COPEL Distribution Power Utility proposes a Roadmap for Residential Energy Storage Systems in Brazil. The work developed seeks to provide a discussion of the existing techniques for energy storage, as well as its applications and costs, identifying critical needs and/or gaps that need to be fulfilled. In addition, we want to understand the market maturation and the context of penetration of these systems, identifying regulatory aspects and public policies for the field of energy storage in Brazil. It also seeks to understand the political, economic and technological barriers to the development of energy storage systems and specific actions that can be taken against these obstacles.
