Resumo: There is at present both in government policy and in academic discussion a new look at the countryside. The countryside becomes perceived as a dynamic living space and consists of various social subjects who do not live only on agriculture. The country today is going far beyond agriculture, performs duties in preserving biodiversity, culture and identity of rural areas. The extension is the premise of sustainable rural development and preferably should assist family farmers and social groups in vulnerability and social risk as demanding guidelines EMATER/RS ASCAR and PNATER. The research aims at an analysis of extension actions EMATER/RS ASCAR COREDE Jacuí Centro the region's center for sustainability dimension in view of the new academic ruralities. The methodology examines guidelines EMATER/RS ASCAR and PNATER indicating agroecology as a way to promote sustainability and its application in extension activities in COREDE Jacuí Centro. The shares were categorized in dimensions: social, ecological, economic, ethical, cultural and political. The analysis comprised qualitative involves a reflection on the new extension being empirically to achieve the demands of a new rural facility. The results show 10% of the public distinguished EMATER/RS ASCAR currently serves the region COREDE Jacuí Centro demonstrating the representativeness of new ruralities and increasing need for new extension actions for the development of rural reach the complexity of new social. It concludes with the research that agroecology, embedded in actions ATER, contributes to the promotion of sustainability and building autonomy and citizenship of the rural social subjects.
