Resumo: | This study aims to evaluate the effects of pre-treatment with purified extract of Curcuma longa (MOTORE®) on the development of oxidative stress in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) infected with Aeromonas hydrophila (MF 372510). Non-enzymatic oxidative parameters such as formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS), non-protein thiols (NPSH) and quantification of reactive species through dichlorofluoroscein diacetate (DCFH-DA) levels were evaluated. In addition to these, enzymatic antioxidant parameters such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were determined. Treatment with MOTORE® was able to minimize fish mortality, increasing longevity, preventing infection, or decreasing pathogen survival or growth. MOTORE® prevented elevated levels of ROS and TBARS in the liver, kidneys, brain and gills of infected fish. In addition, it also prevented the inhibition of SOD and CAT activity and the depletion of NPSH levels, contributing to minimize oxidative damage in these organs. Thus, the results obtained allow recommending the supplementation of the catfish diet with 750 mg of MOTORE® / kg of feed. |
