Resumo: This thesis deals with the work of civil police officers in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, analyzed from the perspective of the concept of work that the International Labor Organization (ILO) named Decent work. Recognition of the importance of work and the worker, in a context of sustainability and social responsibility, led the ILO to build the central concept of this study. Considering the relevance of the theme nowadays, the ILO's decent work was included among the 8 (eight) Millennium Development Goals (MDG), which were stipulated by the UN member countries in the year 2000, and among the 17 (seventeen) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as priorities until 2030. It is therefore relevant and opportune to study the work environment in police organizations, from the perspective of the ILO, defining as the central problem of this research the existence of convergence between the perception of context of police work, by the civil police officers of RS, Brazil, and the indicators that make up the ILO's concept of decent work. The research aims to analyze the convergence between the perception of work of civil police officers in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and the indicators of decent work of the International Labor Organization – ILO, being listed as specific objectives to analyze the perception of civil police officers in RS on their work, according to the criteria of the concept of decent work defined by the ILO; analyze the perception of RS Civil Police Managers about their attributions, from the perspective of the concept of decent work defined by the ILO; measure the main indicators that influence the work of civil police officers, identifying the convergences between their work and the ILO's decent work indicators; to propose a framework of indicators of decent work by civil police officers, also presenting recommendations for the organization. As for the method, the research is classified into two phases: a) qualitative research carried out through interviews with the main managers of the organization; b) applied quantitative research with the participation of 706 civil police officers from the State of RS. Qualitative evidence was treated through content analysis and quantitative evidence was analyzed through computerized statistical procedures, multivariate technique, cluster analysis, Cronbach's alpha reliability analysis, dendrogram, correspondence analysis. The main results are: balanced distribution by sex, positions and ages in the civil police, with a predominance of males. Partial compliance with decent work indicators, with a negative emphasis on the work environment, which is perceived as unsafe, followed by evidence of the institution's low concern with employees.
