Resumo: Generations refer to the group of individuals whose individual characteristics are similar to the time of their birth and which affect the historical context in which they are inserted, directly reflecting on their work environment. The work carried out in an intensive care unit becomes a daily challenge in view of the complexity and peculiarities of this environment, where conflicts are more recurrent. Thus, the question is “How does the conflict of generations occur in the nursing work process in an intensive care unit?”. The study has as general objective to analyze how the conflict of generations occurs in the nursing work process in the context of the Adult Intensive Care Unit and as specific objectives: to identify the generations that make up the team of nursing professionals in a hospital intensive care unit ; to know the perception of the nursing team regarding the experience of generational conflicts in the work environment and to analyze the influence of the generational conflict on interpersonal relationships. This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, in which a semi-structured interview with 14 nursing professionals from an adult intensive care unit of a large university hospital in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro was used for data collection. Grande do Sul, from July to November 2019. Data analysis was performed using Minayo's thematic analysis. As a result, the following categories were obtained: (1) Interpersonal relationships in the context of the ICU: perception of the team regarding the experience of conflicts; (2) Subjectivity in the work process; (3) Conflicts and generations; (4) Generations in the workplace: resistance and conflict resolution strategy. It is believed that this study will significantly contribute to management in the area of health and nursing in work relationships, which is extremely relevant to the contemporaneity in which different generations share the same work environment.
