Resumo: The resistance to the soil s penetration can be used as an indicator of its compaction as well as indicate for its susceptibility to erosion. Considering the influence of the soil compaction on the development of grass, the aim of this study was to identify the spatial variability of the soil resistance to penetration on the football field of the União Frederiquense Club, in Frederico Westphalen, RS, Brazil. The study was performed in a soil constructed from a Haplic Cambisol. Soil penetration resistance was measured by using a penetrometer of manual effort to a depth of 30 cm, using one hundred sampling points, with three replicates, in spacing of 7m x 10m. The obtained data were analyzed by using a descriptive statistics and geostatistics. It was verified that the resistance to penetration presented moderate spatial variability and the compaction levels were different between the examined depths, demonstrating an increase in the resistance of penetration throughout the soil profile. Isoline maps were created by using mathematical methods based on the inverse square of the distance, employing FalkerMap ® program, for better visualization of spatialization of data.
