The development of the research took place in two phases, being the first, a descriptive qualitative research, in order to identify how the industry sector develop their practices related to management of technological innovation oriented to sustainable development. The second phase of the study involved the application of quantitative and descriptive research, which proposed to verify the relationship between technological innovation management geared towards sustainable development and business performance. Quantitative data were collected in the Brazilian chemical sector industries and were treated with descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation test. The results showed that the qualitative phase of the surveyed companies develop a fairly consistent concern with regard to the inclusion of concepts related to sustainable development in the process of technological innovation partnerships to carry out development of green technologies, have a posture toward communication of the advantage of socio-ecological products and encouraging sustainable consumption adjust their products to environmental standards of the importing country, and are concerned about the spread of concepts related to sustainable development, making their decision makers aware and that their decisions are based in these criteria. The results of quantitative phase showed that the analyzed companies are mostly small and medium-sized, over 70% of companies surveyed present some kind of technological innovation, and the company itself holds the responsibility for the innovative activity in 47% of cases, and 56% of companies operate in the domestic market. The results of this stage conclude that the management of innovation-oriented practices to sustainable development positively affects business performance in the Brazilian chemical industries who participated in the study. |
