Resumo: This research has as general objective to analyze the elements of organizational competence of a family business in the food industry sector in Sergipe in the light of the historical trajectory. Its specific objectives are: a) To identify the historical milestones in the organization's trajectory; b) Identify the relevance of the implementation and use of technologies as an element of organizational competence; c) Identify the importance of people as an element of competence at relevant moments in organizational history; and d) Analyze the organizational structure analytically over time. It is based on the perspective of attributing the definition of organization competence suggested by Drejer (2001), using the four competence elements as a mechanism of analysis: technology, people, structure and culture. With regard to the methodology, this research is identified as exploratory, descriptive of a qualitative nature and based on the method of a single case study. Regarding the data collection sources, the instruments used were documentary collection, participant observation and interviews with a semi-structured script. The documents were acquired within the company, participant observation took place on the premises of the six industries from July 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020, management practices and processes were observed in the industrial, auxiliary, commercial and administrative sectors. The semi-structured interviews took place individually in person in the interviewee's sector of activity or in a reserved space in the central auditorium, by telephone and online. The selected interviewees who participated were: 1 director, 3 managers, 9 coordinators, 5 employees with a strategic position and 1 former employee. It is concluded that the organizational competences were identified based on the four elements of competence throughout the trajectory of the company Alfa, from the specific characteristics of the founder and the family to the physical, structural and historical aspects of the industries. It is also concluded that there is no element of dominant competence in the studied industries, but elements of competence that complement each other within each idealized purpose. The organization's history reveals that each element of competence played an important role and that relevance lies in the combination of the elements.
