Resumo: Introduction: The resistance exercise has emerged as an important treatment for the improvement of metabolism, plays a vital role in increasing insulin sensitivity, and therefore a strategy for prevention and control of diabetes mellitus type 2. Objective: To evaluate the acute effects of resistance exercise high intensity on blood glucose and insulin sensitivity in insulin resistance in rats. Methods: Rats were divided into 3 groups: sedentary control (CON), sedentary dexamethasone (DS), dexamethasone + exercise (DE). Resistance exercise protocol was performed in the squat machine, composed of five series, 10 repetitions with intensity of 70% of 1RM. At the end of the protocol was measured body weight and fasting blood glucose as well as blood glucose before and immediately after the completion of resistance exercise session. In addition, the insulin sensitivity test was carried out. Results: The animals DS and DE group were induced insulin resistance reduced their body weight compared to the CON group. THE group who performed the high intensity acute resistance exercise (ERAI) reduced plasma glucose relative after its completion. Since the insulin sensitivity test, the DS group showed a decrease in insulin sensitivity compared to the CON group, which was confirmed in the area under the curve, on the other hand, the group was able to restore insulin sensitivity and also showed a similar smallest area under the curve relative to the DS group and similar to the CON group. Conclusion: Acute resistance exercise high intensity reduced plasma glucose and promoted improvement in insulin sensitivity in rats with insulin resistance induced by dexamethasone.
