Resumo: This paper had as a goal analyzing the identity of fishermen from the thorp called Pedreiras located in the city of São Cristóvão/SE and identity of the forms of symbolic and functional appropriation engaged on the construction of fishing territories. To achieve this analysis, we established specific objectives: i) to investigate the elements and practices of identifying the fishermen the thorp Pedreiras; ii) understanding the meanings and the reinterpretation of the practices and |be a fisherman|; iii) understand the identity forms of fishermen from the middle and practices developed; iv) evaluate the identity of the fishermen of the thorp.The categories called territory and identity beacon the analysis to the identification of the practices and the perception of meanings of being a handmade fisherman. The field data collection realized during the period of 2012-2014, anchored by the qualitative approach, made possible the apprehension of the daily life and the expectations of the community, in other words, how they live and their views of the world. It has been unveiled since the handmade fishing until the sense of being a fisherman in the community, the relationship with the natural ambient through the investigation of what is fished by them, how and when, and also, through the memories and perceptions of the past and the present days of fishing. It was identified that the territory and the territorialities of the Pedreiras thorp are built and rebuilt by fishing, being the river and the tide their signs of affective reference with the place, and, thus, propellants of a strong feeling of belonging and identity to its tenants.
