Resumo: This research characterize Documentation Management and curation of collections of rare works, seeking to meet informational needs and streamline user service. The research carried out was qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and participant research, based on the observation experience in the collection of the Epiphanio Dória"Public Library. The realization of the need for guidelines to guide management in the information units of the Sergipe Library System led to the creation of the Manual for Curating Special Collections and Rare Works. The main objective was to deliver the editorial product, a digital and printed publication with curation guidelines based on legal principles, scientific foundations, documentary and bibliographic methods, administrative processes and Information and Communication Technologies. This adequate curation aims to preserve these materials from deterioration and damage, using descriptive and thematic representation mechanisms, facilitating the search and connecting the public to cultural heritage. The research addresses rare works as records of information and knowledge, with language that adds potential for recording and mediating historical, scientific content and complex concepts. The proposal guides activities based on the management of processes of access to information, knowledge and reading experience of these works, including strategies such as diffusion, dissemination, recovery, marketing, conservation, preservation, restoration and accessibility. The principles were simplified based on academic sources, opinions, area documents and international guidelines, highlighting the importance of direct, simple and accessible language to meet different interactions and facilitate understanding by the target audience. The research problem focused on providing access to rare works for research, aiming to rescue important knowledge, expanding the repertoire of socially available information and in-depth studies. The definition of the objectives of the proposed solution was carried out through an organizational diagnosis, using the SWOT Matrix methodology, which outlined the problem to be addressed in the context of management and curation of rare works and special collections.
