Resumo: Some of the major challenges faced in semiarid regions of northeast of Brazil are the establishment and the creation of human survival opportunities to meet the current and future necessities without exhaustion of natural resources. Theoretical and conceptual advances in different fields of knowledge, have led to a deepening of knowledge and the possibility of review of the environmental issue on different approaches. Due to the current situation of natural resources be degraded by human action through improper agricultural activities and urban settlement, the Sub-basin of Riacho Jacaré presents an ideal setting for studying the effects of these activities. This sub-basin is of paramount importance, because the waters of stream supply the municipalities of tile, Cedro de São João and Propriá, irrigation projects (vegetables, rice plantations), fish breeding and provides the supply of the internal trade of the region. This way, we understand the importance of research, with a view to contributing to sustainable development through these activities. Therefore, this work aims to analyze the social and environmental impacts of activities in the Riacho Jacaré Valley and its influence on River; by means of a system's physical characterization of valley do riacho. We can then identify the environmental impacts in water and soil, and its consequences, caused by the activities of rice production, fish farming, pig production and cutting cattle developed in the Valley of Riacho Jacaré, through an analysis of the physico-chemical properties of Riacho Jacaré water; and analyses of chemical, physical and mineralogical characteristics of soil in the Valley of Riacho Jacaré and identify how these impacts have affected the riparian population. The results identified the main impacts on water quality and their sources of origin. They therefore signal to the direction of the procedures to be adopted for the protection of the Sub-basin of Riacho Jacaré, contributing to sustainable development, contributing to sustainable development.
