Resumo: The search in new tourist sites is more and more evident. More mature demand and previous experiences in the management of tourist sites increase the responsibility in the conduction and elaboration of public politics that permit competitiveness, in a perspective of tourism sustainability, of these new sites. Tourism as social and human activity generates output of property and service that aim at to the satisfaction of tourists that are going to know those different places, stirring of each traveler. The construction of the image of a destination is fundamental key for the tourism development of a region, being the image the most widely used for marketing of an attractive site, in many cases crucial for the decision of purchase and choice for a site. Among the obstacles that may threaten this construction, as well as the sustainability of a destination, the prostitution is one of them. The prostitution in tourism, as stated by some authors, is part of negative externalities, that threaten the tourism sustainability of a location by feeding the women traffic, child exploitation and traffic of narcotics, denigrating this way, the tourist image of the destination. In this way, the study proposed an analysis of the impact that the activity of prostitution provokes in the construction of the tourist image of the neighborhood of Atalaia, in Aracaju-Sergipe, as a new tourist destination and by locating in the seashore, the main city postcard. It was observed, concomitant to the development of the tourism in the region, a migration of the activity of prostitution from downtown to the neighborhood of Atalaia. Through a qualitative and quantitative research, and application of semi-structured interviews, based in the beneficial image proposed model of Tapachai and Waryszak, and processing of data through content analysis of Bardin, the results showed that the activity of prostitution in the neighborhood is not motivated by the tourism in the region, contradicting the questioning that the development of tourism could be a major factor of displacement and growth of prostitution in the neighborhood of Atalaia. The research was applied to social groups belonging to that environment, being businessmen of the tourist trade, tourists, residents and professionals of sex.
