Resumo: The 1988 Brazilian Constitution, in Article 225, Chapter VI - The Environment, Item VI, highlights the need to ´´promote environmental education at all levels of education and public awareness for the preservation of the environment ´(BRAZIL , 1988). In line with these constitutional provisions, other federal, state and local laws require the mandatory Environmental Education. Thus, it is increasingly evident the responsibility of all people to the environmental issue. Environmental awareness as an awareness of the environment by human beings, who, as part of this environment to take care of this takes care of itself, is important for the promotion of environmental education resource, critically. In this context, the study of environmental perception is crucial for a better understanding of the interrelationships between humans and the environment, expectations, desires, satisfactions and dissatisfactions, judgments and behaviors, as well as to strengthen adoption of educational strategies that can promote effective environmental education as the movement of awareness of socio-political, attitudinal / behavioral aimed at environmental sustainability as Faggionato points. In this context, was defined as the central issue in this study the following question: What kind of perception of the environment presented by pupils, students and teachers of primary and secondary schools in two of the State of Sergipe Network Farolândia located in the district of Aracaju, Sergipe. In keeping your overall goal is to analyze the environmental perceptions of the environment presented by these subjects, seeking to realize from this, the role of the school in this context. This is a case study with a qualitative approach, although with the use of quantitative data, combining exploratory and descriptive procedures. Initial data reveal that dominates a perception that the environment surrounding the school has problems. That self perception as a citizen / citizen protagonist of the human being in relation to the environment relate to the question of urban waste (34.2%), with nature as a space to be maintained and preserved (33.6%), the government people / society (16.7%), finishing less representative form with actions related to education (2.8%). This initially points in the significant demand for a paradigm shift in society and education in relation to environmental issues.
