Resumo: The present research is part of the discussion on the use of practical work as a tool the teaching and learning process in science teaching, as the use of this type of methodology provides students the opportunity to experience the process of scientific research, construction of concepts and formulation of hypothesis, thus helping to bring about a meaningful learning. This dissertation has as the investigative problem analyze the perception of the use of practical activities in Science teaching in middle school in some schools in the city of Aracaju, SE. Therefore, the practical activities were categorized according to the concepts of Leite (2001) and Dourado (2001). Questionnaire and interview were the instruments used to collect data. Thus, the first step of this research was the use of questionnaires with 16 science teachers from the 6th year in Aracaju public schools. The analysis of the questionnaires allowed create categories for the selection of teachers for the second step of data collection: the interview. Three different categories were created to distinguish teachers with different professional profiles and five of them were interviewed. Despite the practical work is consider a methodological strategy favorable to the teaching an learning process in science classes, the data analysis gave evidences that the use of this tool in daily school routines faces constant difficulties.
