Resumo: This dissertation deals with the circulating information flows in the Magazine Sector of the Central Library of the Federal University of Sergipe and is based on the need to objectively describe the organization of these flows in the light of current perspectives in Information Science. Therefore, it aims to minimize the existing informational deficits that deserve attention, as they synthesize the informational and managerial reality of this information unit. The objectives of the study are: to perform the intervention in the information flows of the Magazine Sector of the Central Library of the Federal University of Sergipe. And among the specifics are: map and analyze the information flows in the BICEN Magazine Sector; digitize the magazines UFS: Geography / History; disseminate scientific information from magazine UFS journals: Geography / History, via institutional repository for the public domain; describe the participation of the BICEN Magazine Sector in supporting the management of the electronic journals of the Federal University of Sergipe. In this sense, it is a bibliographic, descriptive research, predominantly qualitative in nature. An action research, structured from an intervention project, which consisted of information and knowledge management in the BICEN Magazine Sector, based on the mapping of its main flows and the digitalization of fifty articles contained in ten journals, produced by from 1991 to 2010. As a methodology, the process went through seven steps, ranging from the elaboration of nine flowcharts and their analytical description, through the digitization process itself, through the implantation of the digitized data in the institutional repository, through the electronic copy service of scientific articles, for the preparation of statistical circulation control spreadsheets for journals, the standardization of procedures for converting printed documents to digital and the description of journal management in SEER/ UFS. Among the results obtained, the most representative were: the retrieval of the information contained in the UFS notebooks, the increased visibility of the journals before the academic community, the scientific information in open access / public domain, the mapping of the informational flows of the Magazine Sector, the growth of requests from users to face-to-face and virtual services offered by the Sector. It is concluded that it is possible to enable free access to information and, at the same time, preserve the integrity of the document and the institutional memory in a qualitative way, assisting in the pedagogical process, in the mediation and dissemination of information, in the cognitive formation of new and better subjects informational.
