Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to reconstruct the analysis that Max Weber addresses to modernity, having as guiding principle of this critical formulation the problem of education. With regard to its general objective, it aims to elaborate a theoretical investigation based on the socio-historical and cultural elements pointed out by the modern educational project, from the Weberian point of view. As to its specific objective, it aims to seek, among the various assumptions and changes assumed by the bias of modernity, a more or less articulated definition, according to the German intellectual, of the role of education in this period based on the prerogatives of its own statute. The initial hypothesis of the work is thus formulated: There is in Weberian thought about modernity a space for education, in order to enable a broader understanding of the diagnosis established by the author for that period. Starting from this central element, we seek to work out a viable path for the development of the theoretical matrix of work. Having said that, we see that the approach to the subject gives rise to the possibility of some problem-questions, namely: is there a nexus of proximity to be explored between Max Weber's work and some aspects related to the field of education? Starting from this presumption, in what way was the process of insertion of modernity established under the educational perspective? The methodology of the work was based on the study and critical analysis with emphasis on the main works of the author (Essays on Sociology, Science and Politics: two vocations, The genesis of modern capitalism, On the University) and its commentators, having in order to construct a logical interpretation in response to the questions that were articulated above. In the first chapter, we sought to draw a conceptual-historical picture of the author's first impressions of the world and its relation to modernity. In the second chapter, we discuss the troubled relationship between education, religion, and the modern state. In the third chapter and last chapter, we try to establish a connection between education, capitalism, modernity and science in the world of work. The results point to the configuration in Weber of a space reserved for education clearly distinguishable in its understanding of modernity.
