Resumo: | Using regenerators in elastic optical networks expands the capability of backbone infrastructures, because it allows both the data traffic over greater distances, by increasing the length of optical circuits, and a higher volume of data traffic, by the more efficient use of frequency spectrum. Nevertheless, these advantages depend on the correct placement of regenerators in the network, as well as their assignment to optical circuits traversing the network. These problems are known as regenerator placement and regenerator assignment, respectively, and they have been addressed separately. Regenerators are expensive equipments, and placing them, before effectively assigning them, leaves these high-cost assets idle in the backbone. In this work, we propose a joint method for placing and assigning regenerators, considering a scenario where the optical circuits are long lasting and high transmission capacity. In comparison to mechanisms that performs both tasks separatedly, we identify a higher spectral efficiency and an improvement in the employyment model of regenerators, reducing the financial investment on the backbones. |
