Resumo: | This dissertation is the result of a case study about the professional identity of Journalists from an important newspaper in Rio de Janeiro. It tries to show that this identity is the dynamic and multifarious outcome of an historically and structurally specified professional experience, which could be seen, nowadays, among other factors, in the industrial production of a specific cultural product, the news, in a certain configuration of the Journalist's labour market, and in an also specific professional ethics. An experience that, in one hand, let us speak about a journalistic "ethos", but, in the order, do not let us do it in an abstract way, without reference to the diversity of attitudes and ethical commitments implied by the concrete experience of the editorial office with its divisions, cleavages and internal hierarchies. A diversity that however leads us to the specific role that our Brazilian press assumes in our days, when we discuss the forms and contents with which we should build our citizenship and the institutions related to its exercise, among others the press itself. |
