Resumo: This work studies the surface settlements caused by the excavation of a tunnel of the Ferrovia do Aço in residual soil of migmatite, as well as analyses the measurements and compaires them with the values that were gotten by the well-known prediction methods of these settlements. The analysis of the measurements was divided into three parts. The first one, which talks about the settlements developed along the longitudinal axis of the tunnel, aims to verify the influence of the excavation on those settlements. The second part studies the transversal movements over the tunnel, and it means to check the hypothesis according to which those foresaid movements are shapped into a probability curve. Finally, the third part is related to the variation ratio of the surface displacements. Reporting to the settlements prediction methods, we have only discussed those analytical ones that provide values gotten from empirical and semi-empirical equations. These equations generally need the estimate of parameters based on previous experience of similar cases. This work has not studied the numerical methods.
