Resumo: | Most IoT solutions, in order to reduce power consumption, take severe constraints on the communication rate by limiting them to the use of applications where sensors capture small amounts of data. Therefore, these solutions are not suitable for the monitoring of wild animals, which requires the transmission of large amounts of photos captured by trap cameras installed in the middle of the forests. In addition, the forest environment also impairs transmission capacity. Therefore, this work proposes the collection of data from devices in the forest with the help of drones. Thus, it aims to evaluate the performance of a wireless network for the communication between the drone and the image capture devices using the 802.11 stantand. To achieve our goal, we evaluate traditional network metrics, such as maximum range, transmission rate, and packet loss. The energy consumed to carry out the transmission is also evaluated. To compare and better characterize the transmission in the forest, the wireless devices are evaluated in other scenarios: indoor, outdoor, and inside the forest. The most important result is the feasibility of using these types of devices with low computational capacity for forest applications. |
