Resumo: This work focus on an issue not addressed by the existing studies in the nautical tourism segment: the travel pattern of tourists that arrive in a city aboard a cruise ship. The specific focus of this analysis refers to Rio de Janeiro, trying to establish if the implementation of the tramway system (VLT) at the downtown area, boosted by the recent portuary revitalization, would change the travel pattern of cruise ship tourists. Moreover there was the goal to know if this new transportation system would bring quality, safety and agility in the short time available to enjoy the destination, besides contributing to add quality value to their respective touristic experiences during the cruise ship travel. For that, interviews were held with the cruise ship tourists inside Pier Mauá Cruise International Terminal during the last two cruise seasons: 2015/2016 (before the tramway starts to work) and 2016/2017 (after the beginning of the tramway operation). These interviews also aimed to know the profile of these visitors, identify the most popular Tourist Trip Generation Poles and the main problems faced during the visitation focused on mobility and accessibility to these tourist attractions. The main conclusion obtained, among others, have shown that the portuary revitalization had more influence at changings observed on the travel pattern of cruise ship tourists than the implementation of the tramway system inserted in this urban cenary.
