Resumo: | Because of the increasing supply of composite pipes considering different designs, and as, even nowadays, the strength of these materials are not a completely known subject, this thesis aims to study the failure mechanisms of composites applied to subsea pipelines and investigate the applicability of failure criteria from the literature under temperature effect. The goal is to understand the limits of application of those pipelines, whereas the installation and operating loads (drift, curvature, internal pressure and external pressure) for which the use is done safely. In this way, a series of small-scale characterization tests were conducted on typical composites for this application, and their results were used to calibrate some failure criteria from the literature. Then, these criteria were applied to numerical models representing pipes under actual loads, which allowed estimating the pipe application limits. At the same time, full-scale tests were carried out on composite rigid pipes and their results were compared to the numerical predictions. In the end, the numerical and experimental results were compared and discussed. |
