Resumo: This study aimed to examine compliance with the essential actions recommended by PHPN from the records of the pregnant woman on the card. This is a documentary, exploratory and descriptive research, using a quantitative approach, developed in the months of April, May and June 2012, on Health Institute Elpidio de Almeida, in Campina Grande - Paraiba. The study included 349 cards of pregnant that have recently given birth, who performed all prenatal care in the city of Campina Grande and term birth. The standardized instrument was a form of data capture, containing the variables advocated by the Program for the Humanization of Prenatal and Birth. Data were tabulated and obtained by consulting the mother's card that was in women possession. The data processing was done using SPSS for Windows, 15.0version, and analysis through descriptive statistics and inferential bivariate. Os procedimentos de inferência estatística, por sua vez, foram realizados por meio dos testes , Chi-squareand Cramer's coeficiente calculation. The research complied with Resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council, which provides for investigations involving human subjects and was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Centre for Higher Education and Development, being performed only after approval under the CAAE No 02244912.9.0000.5175. The sample was observed that most of the patients starts prenatal in the first trimester (61.6%),and that a very large number of cards (34.4%) had record of early prenatal care in the second trimester. Moreover, 34.1% of cards had not any query in the first trimester. Among the tests recorded in the cards, we found that only 34.0% of the pregnant women made the I urine test in 1st trimester. And that a very small number of pregnant women (40.9%) carried out the VDRL. Only 58% of pregnant women had outcomes request fasting blood glucose level at the first prenatal consultation and 70% of cards presented results of testing for HIV. Regarding the hemoglobin examination, was found 64.3% of results of which 88% had records of ABO-Rh Factor. Regarding tetanus vaccination, 21.02% of the cards had no record. The study showed a positive association between prenatal initiation performing all laboratory tests and vaccines advocated by the PHPN. Thus, we emphasize the real need for a more comprehensive iscussion among professionals, managers and community attended, reviewing or revising the prenatal care provided to pregnant women in the city of Campina Grande.
