Resumo: The use of scenes as visual stimuli in investigations that seek to clarify the processing of attentional information has become common in countless studies; however, even though there are picture databases of scenes of many contexts, none composed of scenes representing social interactions can be identified. This absence could configure important losses regarding the comprehension of the attentional processing for populations that present specific characteristics, such as people with childhood trauma history, that tend to present attention biases in some studies, however, with still divergent results, due to limitations regarding the investigation techniques and the visual stimuli used. Based on this, the present study aimed to present a picture database of social interactions of negative, positive, and neutral valences of two categories, child interacting with adult and adult interacting with adult, and with the use of these visual stimuli, to investigate the differences in the recognition of social interaction scenes between people with and without a history of childhood trauma as well as the association between attentional bias through eye-tracking, trauma history, and psychiatric symptoms. Three empirical studies compose this thesis. The first one aimed to develop and present an picture database of social interactions of two categories: child/adult and adult/adult. The second study compared differences in the recognition ratings between child/adult and adult/adult of negative and positive valences in people with and without childhood trauma history. The third study examined the association between childhood trauma history, psychiatric symptoms, and the fixation duration for both classes of stimuli, scenes of social interactions between child/adult and adult/adult, and facial expressions of sadness, anger, happiness, and neutral. Overall, the obtained results present the social interaction scenes of positive and negative valences as valid visual stimuli for use, pointing to main parameters similar to other databases of visual scenes. The adequacy of the scenes was first evidenced through the identification of hypervigilance attentional biases in people with childhood trauma history through recognition and eye tracking, similar to other investigations. The potential use of the interaction scenes in other investigations and its possible adaptation for clinical use in therapeutic processes are discussed.
