Práticas de produção e comunicação científica da Universidade Federal da Paraíba e de Campina Grande (PB): estudo bibliométrico no período 2008 - 2018

Scientific production is one of the indicators of scientific, technological and innovation development of a country. In Brazil, most of this production is originated from public universities. In order to know the performance of the scientific productions of two Federal Universities located in the Northeast region of Brazil, it is proposed as main objective: to analyze the scientific production of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) and of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), which is indexed at Web of Science from 2008 to 2018. In order to reach this objective, the following specific objectives include: to calculate the number and the average of quotations of the papers published by the respective universities; to calculate the h-index of the authors; to verify the annual growing of the scientific production; to verify the scientific collaboration between national and international universities; to identify the number of publications by area of knowledge; and to contextualize, theoretically, the content by means of a bibliographic research related to scientific communication. The choice of the Web of Science is justified because it is considered an interdisciplinary reference base, as well as because of the broad coverage of titles of journals and tools which it offers for the metric studies of information. This research is classified as descriptive and exploratory with quantitative approach. It is also a document research, once the recovered data are raw. Then, they need a systematization to know their meaning. In the treatment of raw data it is used a software program named VantagePoint, which permits to process diverse documents with advanced bibliometric techniques. The results identified 8,302 documents of the UFPB and 4,426 of the UFCG, recovered from the Web of Science in the delimited period. It is emphasized the importance of metric studies because from the indicators it is possible to measure the level of development, production and scientific, technological and innovation knowledge of the institutions and of a country.
