Resumo: This dissertation focuses on the relationships that teachers and their students have with the curriculum and with the knowledge, included in studies on the curriculum, teaching practice and teaching of geography, besides investigating the options that are used by teachers of geography work in the school when they deal with the officially established curriculum, verifying what objective and subjective factors are supporting teachers when they make the selection of the school material as well as the theoretical and methodological bases used, thus identifying the teaching of geography happens in the high school. The aim of this work is to study the teaching of geography underlying the practice of the teacher, viewing this teacher teaching and reflecting about his/her practice. In order to achieve this goal, we analyzed the presence, in two public schools, of prescribed curriculum, the curriculum in action, until it reaches the classroom and becomes an operational curriculum, under the new meaning brought by the teacher. The theoretical framework has enabled the uncovering of the interior of curricular and pedagogical activity in which teachers of geography establish relations with the curriculum that will outline the selection, organization and transmission of knowledge in the classroom. The way teachers deal with the knowledge and pedagogical processes that choose to broadcast their influence in the ways students perceive and take ownership of the school curriculum. It is evident that there s a superficial knowledge on Official Curricular Programs - the National Curriculum Guidelines and that the main curriculum map used by teachers is the textbook. Also, it was noted that there are several factors involved in the selective character of the school curriculum and the textbook as a pedagogical resource has a prominent role in this selection, but without obscuring the action of teachers, for they are the mediators in the teaching / learning selection. The results of this investigation indicate that the educational activities are affected by physical and material conditions of the school context, which actually comprises the following scenario: too full classroom, without any environmental organization aesthetics, low maintenance and a significant lack of material resources. Considering the central role that the curriculum has over the educational field, we offer a contribution to understand the interaction between teachers and the curriculum as well as their own perceptions and ways of putting into action the curriculum requirements through strategies that help in overcoming difficulties. The aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding of the curriculum of school geography as a useful field for thinking the relations between teaching and learning established by the subjects of education, increasing the possibility of a better understanding about the reality of school.
