Resumo: Introduction: The possibility of infection by SARS-COV-2 in the dental office is considered high, requiring the adoption of strict biosafety measures during dental care, in order to obtain a lower risk of spreading the disease Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID- 19). Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, age over 60, obesity and immunosuppression represent a risk for the disease. Objective: To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental practice and the level of anxiety among Brazilian dentists. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out through a semi-structured online questionnaire indexed on Google Forms and distributed among dentists from 06/20/20 to 08/11/2020. The questionnaire was subjected to an internal consistency analysis, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.941. The responses of 578 participants were evaluated, distributed across all regions of Brazil. The data obtained were analyzed, using the IBM SPSS 25.0 software, descriptively and inferentially (Pearson's chi-square association test, multivariate logistic regression and Poisson multiple regression) with subsequent calculation of the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval, using a significance level of 5%. Results: The majority of dentists were female, with a median age of 35 years old and had graduated for up to 5 years. Among the participants, 23.4% were part of the risk group for COVID-19. The results revealed that 69.2% of dentists said they routinely followed all recommended biosafety measures. Professionals who belonged to the risk group had a greater chance of not feeling prepared to perform consultations (OR = 1.67) and were not performing any type of procedures during the pandemic (OR = 2.03). Belonging to the risk group did not influence the level of anxiety among dentists. The factors associated with increased anxiety were: belonging to the female gender, being younger, working in the southeastern region of the country, being afraid of contracting COVID-19 while working and being concerned about her professional future. Conclusion: The present study observed that the pandemic had a negative impact on the professional practice of individuals at risk, but the level of anxiety was similar to professionals who were not part of the risk group for COVID-19.
