Resumo: | This master's dissertation has as its main objective to evaluate the links between the repercussions of the 2008 global economic crisis and higher public education, its reflexes at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) and in the Mechanical Engineering course of this institution. The study is justified in that, increasingly, the links between the processes of Globalization of the Economy have been proving so broad and so complex that, on the one hand, the admission of the influenza of nations over other nations seems to be inexorable. , however, the exchanges have not been evenly balanced. As a thematic delimitation and also as a primary hypothetical context, it is opportune to consider that started in 2008 in the United States, the crisis would have as its initial cause the specious manipulation (“credit bubble”) and the consequent collapse of the real estate sector, this crisis has had impacts at various levels and across the globe. In Brazil, all sectors of the economy were affected, causing changes in several branches of society, including in Higher Public Education, in reality within such complex and dynamic effects that even today (May 2020) conclusive studies on all of them are lacking. influences. As for the methodology, it is an original research, based on the interpretation of authorship, under the possibilities admitted by the theoretical review of bibliographic documentary background, under the nature of exploratory studies, with a qualitative approach, under the illustration of the investigation of the data pertinent to the study of peculiarities experienced by the Mechanical Engineering Course of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), whether in relation to research grants, or verifying the effects of this crisis on transfers and the number of scholarships available to the student body. The results obtained demonstrate that the budget transfers to the Federal Higher Education Institutions (IFES) fell from 2016 and the scholarships offered to undergraduate and graduate students at UFPB grew until 2014 (due to the expansion policies of the higher education), stabilizing since then, and not really being characterized, have been directly influenced by the effects of the crisis. However, the results for the UFPB Technology Center indicate that not only the scholarships of the Mechanical Engineering course were affected, but also in the other courses of the Center, in addition to a drop in its quality indicators. |
