Resumo: | This study deals with the theme of Crack among women serving time and criticizes the treatment policies. In the praxis and bibliography one can note the complexity of this issue: the small number of crack users in treatment in CAPsAD; substantial withdrawal of women in these health services for the treatment of drug addiction; increasing number of incarcerated women involved in trafficking and/or drug use. METHODS: The sample consisted of fifteen crack users who underwent treatment in CAPs ADs before their arrest in the penal colony of the Bom Pastor in Recife/PE. The research was descriptive, exploratory, comprising qualitative and quantitative analysis (mixed method). Data were collected through interviews with semi-structured questionnaires. These findings were tabulated and processed using Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Data was then submitted to content analysis in the light of critical social theory within the perspective of totality, taking Gender Issues into account. RESULTS: We noticed a lack of access of the inmates to the treatment of Drug Dependency; gender issues appear as limiting the demand of such users for treatment. CONCLUSIONS: There are considerable limitations in drug policies and in healthcare services managing the specificities of women using crack and other drugs. |
