Resumo: This research “Culture and Resistence: The fight of LGBT artists in João Pessoa” aimed, as the general objective, to understand and analyze the exercise of culture as resistance and fight of LGBT artists in João Pessoa City. For this, it aimed as the specific objectives: 1 – Formulate a conceptual discussion of LGBT identity from culture and the critical perspective of Human Rights; 2 – identify LGBT individual artists and artistics groups in João Pessoa City, elaborating a profile of these people and their cultural productions, understanding art as a Human Right; and 3 – Analyze in the discourse of these artists elements of resistance, fight against discrimination and search for social recognition. For the writing work of the final dissertation, it was made a theorical discussion about LGBT identity through culture and the critical perspective of the Human Rights. Then, it was made a field research with the purpose of identifying LGBT individual artists and artistic groups in the city of João Pessoa, elaborating a profile of them and their cultural productions, and understanding the art as a human right. Lastly, open interviews were made in order to understand elements of resistance, fight against discrimination and seek for social recognition through art. The interviews were analyzed using the content analysis technique. With research work and the results analysis, it concludes that culture and art are, in trajectory of LGBT artists, essential to resisting to violences manifestations and access the social recognition.
