Resumo: | INTRODUCTION - The moral harassment is a psychological violence, subtle, disguised, of repetitive character and prolonged, with the intention of humiliating and socially exclude a person in the context of labor activity, causing it psychosocial stress and damages to society and to the organization. OBJECTIVES This study has the following objectives: to investigate the situations of moral harassment experienced by nurses in the workplace; to define the profile of the harasser according to information of participants enrolled in the study, to identify the consequences of the practice of moral harassment to the health of the nurse; to verify which actions are taken by the professionals involved in the research, victims of the practice of moral harassment. METHODOLOGY This is an exploratory research quantitative and qualitative approach. Participated in the search 259 nurses. In data collection, we used a questionnaire containing relevant questions to the proposed objectives for the research. Data were collected between June and July of 2011, by electronic means. DATA ANALYSIS The quantitative data were treated by means of frequency and percentage, after presented in graphical representation and qualitative ones through content analysis technique. The data obtained in the subjective question of the instrument were grouped into thematic categories: situations of humiliation, embarrassment, harassment and discrimination and situations of powerlessness. RESULTS This study showed that moral harassment occurs frequently in working relationships of nurses enrolled in the study, being the most frequent the vertical downward harassment. In such study it was evident that the participants spoke about suffered aggressions, especially with family members. When it comes to the sex of the aggressor, 51, 72 are female. For these nurses, the harasser is primarily authoritarian, manipulative, arrogant and persecuting person. The situation that occurs more frequently, according to the investigated sample, is the one in which the aggressor ignores the presence of the victim in front of others. The time that the participants claim to have been abused varies from 3 months to more than 5 years. The main consequences for the health of nurses who have suffered moral harassment were: stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and irritability. The reason why the nurse was the target of moral harassment at work most reported by participants was for not to bowing to authoritarianism. The dissertation project was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the LauroWanderleyAcademicalHospital under protocol No. 776/2010. FINAL COSIDERATIONS The study allowed us to verify that the moral harassment is in the workplace of nurses, causing adverse health affects of the victim. |
