The present project aims at analyzing Canudos, Historia em versos (Canudos, History in Verses), work of Sergipano poet Manuel Pedro das Dores Bombinho, highlighting some particularities that link the relationship between history and literature regarding the poetic invention, especially the epic character of the work. Due to its hybrid character, we classify the work as an "epic", which represents the very journey of the hero in crisis in the end of the 19th century, in the present time. The poem also highlights the polyphonic aspect of the poetic voice in relation to the facts that marked the tragic ending between the community of Canudos and the Republic in the end of the 19th century.
