Resumo: | Education and its institutions have historically developed an important function when fighting against the social crisis and undeniably have a relevant role to accomplish in the contemporary socio-environmental scenery even though they don’t have the power to act singly. The present work is placed at the Federal Institute of Sergipe (IFS) to investigate its educational potential and capacity to renew the models of conscience formation, knowledge and management to answer to the challenge of the socio-environmental crisis in the internal community. Particularly, this research refers to the case of IFS Campus in Aracaju, with the hypothesis that this Campus has incorporated the dimension of environmental sustainability as its goal, but is in a transitional process that needs to be developed, since sustainability is a process. In relation to the interdisciplinarity, educational, environmental, political, social and cultural questions are added. Therefore, the main goal is to evaluate the advance and challenges of IFS Aracaju Campus in the process of knowledge internalization and practice developed in the instructive dimension, of management, and the relationship with the internal public in relation to the environmental issues.To attend this purpose, it was necessary to identify the main actions of sustainability developed at IFS Aracaju Campus oriented toward the community of the Campus; evaluate how well the community is in concern to the developed environmental sustainability projects; identify what are the main ecological problems confronted by the academic community,verify the internal environmental politics about sustainability that were implemented or not. In respect to the methods, a qualitative ethos was used with the supplement quantitative data. The research was divided into three distinctive parts which are related and cause a debate to reach conclusions. First, an documentary and bibliographical analysis was done to verify what is already institutionalized. After that, a study about the data that referred to management of the Campus was done. To make it possible, administrative measures were listed to expose energetic efficiency, the use of water, treatment with the solid residues, and sustainable IFS program. The last part of the research attended the study of the academic community trough the application of questionnaires to certificate the involvement of the institution in the actions of environmental sustainability. The results showed that there isn’t any environmental politic fixed and that the actions developed are punctual. The manager of the Campus revealed that there isn’t any training and sensitization program to the internal community, as well as to the own managers. Such situation spread directly to the involvement of the community who didn’t know the developed actions. Therefore, the suggestion is that an environmental politic of the Campus needs to be formalized. |
