Resumo: | The pandemic of the new coronavirus, whose etiological agent is the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has become an emerging topic and a public health problem, which affects the lives of the population and the professionals who work in it. In view of this context, Basic Health Care (ABS) in Brazil was modified by necessary adaptations to cope with COVID-19. These modifications reformulated the practices of several professionals in the fight against the disease, including Dental Surgeons. In this sense, the objective of the study was to evaluate the performance of the Dental Surgeon in Primary Care during the pandemic period, where a study was carried out based on two complementary databases. The first base used was research financed by FAPESQ, which carried out an exploratory, descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. The second database was the systematization of a meeting held by APS FORTE, which addresses the experiences reported by managers in the work process during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from both databases were divided into four thematic categories: Professional profile and UBS structure; Flows and routines; protective measures; Health promotion. According to the results of the survey, there was a need to adopt measures to reorganize the services, suspending elective care in view of the demand for urgent and emergency care, in addition to procedures related to the performance of COVID-19. In many units, home visits were suspended, health promotion services were in the background, and professionals were removed with the justification of a lack of PPE. Dental Surgeons are professionals who have characteristics of care with a higher risk of contagion by coronavirus. In view of this, the situations faced required the reorganization of the work routine and the updating of care practices, forcing professionals to follow the norms established for the contribution to patient care in an integral way, with suspension of elective activities and maintenance of emergency care. and emergency. |
