Resumo: | The genus Capsicum includes around 30 species, five of which are domesticated and widely cultivated: Capsicum annuum L., Capsicum chinens and Jacq., Capsicum frutescens L., Capsicum baccatum L. and Capsicum pubescens Ruiz & Pav. However, C. annuum L. is the most explored as it covers peppers, sweet peppers and ornamental cultivars. This species is widely sold both fresh and as an ornamental plant. Through morphological characterization, it is possible to access the genetic diversity of a germplasm bank collection that is available for use in genetic improvement programs. However, one of the main factors limiting crop production is affected by the occurrence of plant diseases. ). Among the diseases that currently affect peppers of the genus Capsicum spp., wilt caused by Fusarium sp. stands out. Due to its phytopathogenic potential, the genus Fusarium is considered one of the most important worldwide. Fusariosis has caused major problems such as damping-off, root rot, late rot, drying of leaves, resulting in a reduction in the production of pepper and other crops of economic importance, such as peppers and beans. This work was divided into three chapters. In chapter one, genetic diversity was evaluated among 355 progenies of the F2 segregating generation. In the second chapter, the responses of the accessions to Fusarium sp inoculation in the F3 and F4 generation were presented. In the third chapter, resistance to fusariosis was evaluated with different generation inoculation methods in ornamental pepper genotypes. |
