This paper aims to analyze the performance of the / Social Worker who works in the host institutions located in the city of João Pessoa responsible for working with families of children and adolescents away from family. Also aims to know the profile / he, grasping the limits and challenges faced by institutions and current situation nationally and internationally, as well as understand the processes of interventional / a professional in the execution of family. The study has as its central element of the historical-dialectical, from facts that do not happen by themselves, but in relation to the society in which it operates, and its conditions of production and social contradictions that reflect the everyday practice of / Social Worker, the focus of our analysis. Highlights the centrality of qualitative perspective, although it contains quantitative elements. Structured interviews were conducted with twelve social workers who provided information on the dynamics of work and activities performed to ensure family living. The data showed that, despite advances in legislative terms, the actions taken by / a professional families and children and adolescents are not enough, but respond to the immediate demands of the institution and the State to maintain the condition of their inferiority, submitted the requirement of the production process of capital. O / A professional needs to review its intervention through a reflective process about reality and plan much deeper in strengthening / the user / service the High Complexity.
