This research has aims to investigate the reading comprehension of students in a class of 2nd high school class of a public school. Considering the proposed activities of reading in the light of the PCNS and scholars dealing with on the topic. The high school is due this is a basic education level that presents great difficulties to ensure of skills necessary for reading, as observations made using the assessment tools as the ENEM and SAEB. So for work use the following official documents: National Curriculum Parameters (2000), PCN (2002),reorientation Curriculum (2010), in addition to the following, which deal with the theorical issue on the agenda: Solé (1998), Braggio (1992), Lajolo (1994), Antunes (2003) and Kleiman (1997). Reading postulated in the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN) constitutes an extremely important the guidelines directed for teaching learning of reading process, as it establishes guidelines guiding. The teaching of reading, under the perspective from the development of reading comprehension, the student becomes proficient in other disciplines. Opted for the methodology qualitative and descriptive in nature as approach and as an instrument of research including the use semi-structured questionnaire as grant for data. As support for data collection and implemented activities through image readings (as appendix A), raise hypotheses,debates last written activity contemplating the impressions of the students on the topic presented text O BICHO Manuel Bandeira,Solé based on reading strategies(1998) developed and applied to the students based on reading strategies Solé(1998), from the accomplished results that encouraging readingFrom the study results suggest that encouraging reading as proposed was productive and from the use of reading strategies becomes inviting and pleasant. Therefore to form the reader with competence reader is necessary a constant practice of reading starting from a systematized and organized around the range of texts so with this work intend to offer information that could contribute to an improvement the teaching practice and teaching in the public school.
