Resumo: Despite it's being considered marginal and don't attend to the market thinking, the underground culture is present in the traditional media. Then, this essay attempted to get the concept of underground culture built by the newspaper Correio da Paraíba with its daily cultural journalism, analyzing the technical features of the underground culture, identifying the discursive strategies adopted by this newspaper when approach to the subject-matter and questioning the historical background in the appearance of underground movements. The interdisciplinary study is theoretically based in the mass media mainly on constructivist theories of journalism, in the Sociology specially on daily sociology in the Michael Maffesoli point of view, in the Linguistics reasoned on the analysis of the media discourse proposed by Patrick Charaudeau which was adopted as a method. Accordingly to this, 30 articles by the editorship of culture from the newspaper Correio da Paraíba, published in the years 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010 were analyzed. The research suggest the concept of underground culture constructed by the newspaper is fashioned by these following core meanings: marginal behavior, fight against the political system, characters and works of the underground movement, independent / alternative character in relation to the market and criticism to the fidelity of the underground values.
