Resumo: | This thesis exploits spirituality and sense of life in the transition to ageing, as well as the demands arising in this ultimate period of human existence, such as finitude confrontation, changes in social, familial and affective areas. Also, the challenges and perceptions emerging during this passage. The theme expansion will permeate the research, as one has realized that, so as to understand changes coming from the dusk of life, one needs to investigate in their most particular constitutive elements; their idiosyncrasies and spirituality. Such holistic view will contribute for a better perception of their modus vivendi and thus, answer the guiding question of this study, whose general aim was to investigate relevance of both Spirituality and the Sense of Life in the transition process of adult age to the ageing phase. The study is based on the theories by Mircea Eliade, Rudolf Otto and Durkheim, who deal with spirituality and religious experience; theories by Elizabeth Lukas and Erik Erikson, who deal with the theme of human evolution and ageing, as well as Viktor Frankl’s theory, who gives the thesis an analysis of the sense of life, as the driving force to overcome misfortunes occurring along existence. Therefore, one used the qualitative approach, with text analysis, questionnaire and interview through Google forms, Google Meet and e-mails, thus making it possible to achieve the goals proposed. The research investigation and analyses showed that spirituality and the sense of life are relevant and essential in the transition to ageing; spirituality is a great support in facing changes and situations appearing during this period of life, such as the feelings of loneliness, helplessness, diseases and retirement. It also presented in the interview analyses, the sense of life as a driver to resilience facing challenges when becoming aware of ageing; it proved to be the relationship among spirituality, religiosity and the sense of life, a paramount, medullary support in the process of existential crisis at the dusk of life. One concluded that, both spirituality and the sense of life are indispensable to offer the human being, the balance, resilience and transcendence to live the ultimate phase of their existence, the transition to the evening of their lives. |
