Resumo: This thesis contends that paying attention to language to assist in the understanding of the circulation of management ideas in the theoretical and practical fields of Management implies being able to find mechanisms that help explain the existing gap between them. For this end, the aim proposed is to analyze how the understanding of the professional field of Management as a linguistic process, constituted by the circulation of management ideas, can explain the theory practice gap in the area. For this, this thesis was structu red based on 2 (two) interdependent studies. For the methodological design , it was recognized that business media can act as intermediaries between the academic and practical fields, and therefore, the empirical material was gathered from secondary data, collected from articles and materials published in academic journals and co mmercial magazines defined for the research. 6 (six) management ideas were delimited to be investigated over a time frame of, on average, 22 years. For Study I, the analysis was cond ucted through qualitative content analysis and, at a second stage, vocabulary analysis, both with the assistance of NVivo© 14 software. For Study II, data was analyzed through qualitative content analysis , inductive interpretation of publications on management ideas, and time trajectory analysis . Study I provided an understanding of the nature of ideas, which generates understandings on the professional dynamics of the actors and is also rooted in the comprehension of management practices of a field. Study II made it possible the systematization of mechanisms through the analysis of the communicative functions that encompass the recursive movement of the field, born from a linguistic repertoire, constituted by widely (re)recognized ideas by vocabulary systems constructed over time. Furthermore, it was possible to infer that the level of importance of the meanings generated by the vocabularies is divergent between academics and practitioners and, therefore, i s structured in a divergent way, even if coming from similar linguistic repertoires. Finally, the thesis proposes the existence of a language of Management" ruled by labels and understandings that are articulated and utilized by actors through management ideas, which represent meanings and maintain coherence with what is institutionalized in the academic and practical fields, which may reflect on the gap that has been established so far in the literature as a consensus.
