Resumo: The accelerated growth in research production in postgraduate programs (PPGs) environments in Administration has led to an increase in discussions about the gap between the rigor and the relevance of practical research developed nowadays in Brazil and generating questions about the contribution of Administration for the relevant research production in the country. Aware of this, we have proposed to investigate the relationship between the addressing relevance by the teaching staff of Administration PPGs in Brazil and their professional experiences in the academic and productive sectors, and to analyze it through the Theory of Impression Management optic. The reach of the general objective happened from the 1) analysis of the professor’s profile, based on grouping their characteristics; 2) from the relationship between the professional experiences in the market and in the academy; and 3) from the techniques and strategies of the impression management used in the PPGs environment. It is, therefore, a quantitative, transverse, exploratory and descriptive research that has sought to comprehend and explain a phenomenon, through its characteristics and relations, identified in a specific time window. Secondary data from the Lattes curricula of 1309 professors linked to all postgraduate programs in administration active in Brazil, collected between October and November 2022, were used. The data were organized into a data set that has permitted the statistical analysis of the chosen variables for the study. From the data, it was possible to draw a picture when it comes to the professor’s profiles linked to the PPGs. A discrepancy between professional experiences in the productive sector and the academy was verified, when comparing their central measures, which was considered as the main data of the work. The study contributes to strengthen the rigor-relevance discussion by highlighting the little practical experience of Administration professors/researchers as a possible reason for the low relevance of research in the area. It is recommended, as an agenda of new research, triggering these agents to comprehend this scenario in loco, as well as the construction of a model that is capable of measuring the relevant production of the professors, which is going to permit the enrichment of the proposed analysis here.
