Resumo: The work presented in this dissertation is the result of research carried out over the past two years as a graduate student in the Graduate Program in Anthropology at the Federal University of Paraiba. I approach it as a tradition of craftsmen Alto do Moura, Caruaru / PE, is constructed and used to mark social distinctions between the group and its members. Observe the tradition on different aspects while instrumental element to its external visibility, under which is shown as equity. Therefore consider both practices developed by public policies, but also as artisans design strategies to demonstrate their tradition. However, this also marks distinction in social positions by artisans who demonstrate a social hierarchy through their own categories. Here, tradition is the defining element that differentiates those who are keepers of tradition and modifying it. However, this distinction is internal to the group that organizes itself as domestic groups, forming a group identity through your tradition. Thus, the work of the left need to discover the tradition claimed by artisans from Alto does Moura, to address the need for its definition so that they can prepare the application for registration of its tradition as a national cultural heritage.
