Resumo: This exploratory descriptive study was IIIated cons goal of veritying the utilization of Horts's theory of Basic Husan Needs through the identification and classification of nurning diagnoses according to Taxonomy of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA). The results demonstrated that nursing diagnoses were identified in the three levels of basic buna Maintenance needs. with the diagnoses. Alteration in Health and Alteration in Sexuality Patterns having the greatest treqency. Validation of these occured through the correlation of defining characteristics of the diagnoses of NANDA with the characteristics identified in this study. The diagnoses showed a corcordance among the characteristics for the majority of the identified diagnoses According to the classification of the identified nursing diagnoses based on theory of Horta, the results showed that all were classified within the three levels of basic busan needs and the diagnoses presented a correlation between the basic needs and the Busan Response Patterns. Nevertheless we do recognize that this classification does not comprise all of the diagnoses approved by NANDA and that the classification of Horta needs to be increased, revised or redefined to make it applicable for nursing.
