Resumo: This thesis has as its research object the technical courses of the Federal Institute of Pernambuco (IFPE) - Recife Campus. This study analyzes the relationships between formative experiences and professional expectations of students from integrated and subsequent technical courses. It was observed that IFPE has become an important locus of study to understand the structure of Professional Technical Education (EFA) in Brazil and, in particular, the impasses involving the education-work dichotomy. Moreover, among the main results, there is a duality in terms of teaching that has contributed to the fragmentation of education, and has undermined the goals of the EFA public policy. Changes in the Brazilian labor market have impacted both the dimensions of students' formative experiences and their expectations after completing technical courses. With this, the students at the IFPE-Campus Recife have been going through moments of uncertainty and changes in relation to their personal and/or professional expectations. In methodological terms, a combination of bibliographic and document research, as well as semi-structured interviews with students, coordinators, and area managers were used.
