Resumo: | This dissertation is subdivided into two papers. The first one, titled "Menstrual Cycle and Anxiety: a systematic review", identified the importance of considering the phase of the menstrual cycle for a better comparison of hormonal fluctuation, as well as the need for the use of instruments that assess levels and aspects of anxiety. The findings of this study support the use of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) as an instrument for measurement of anxiety, being the instrument most used in research. The second paper, built with empirical data, has the title "Hormonal Fluctuation Interference in Anxiety in Women During the Menstrual Cycle". In this one, a greater value of STAI has been observed during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. It has not been possible to verify a statistically significant correlation between anxiety-state in the different phases of the menstrual cycle, as well as no significant correlation was observed between levels of cortisol or estradiol with STAI. |
