Resumo: The dissertation presented here entitled: "THE EXERCISE OF THE TEACHING ACTIVITY OF AND OF THE SOCIAL ASSISTANT IN HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE MODALITY OF DISTANCE EDUCATION", is configured as a result of a literature review about the professional practice of teaching and the Social Worker in Higher Education in the form of Distance Learning – Distance Learning. The general objective deals with the analysis of the working conditions of the exercise of the teaching activity of these professionals in the aforementioned scope and modality, based on the existing Social Work literature on this theme. As specific objectives, the following are listed: the historical problematization of Higher Education in the form of Distance Learning, especially in Social Work in Brazil; the bibliographic survey on the topic of Distance Learning; the bibliographic survey of articles in the area of Social Work, based on the identification of the themes and of the authors who published on Distance Learning; and the analysis of working conditions for the professional exercise of teaching in Higher Education in the form of Distance Learning in the area of Social Work. The method adopted is the dialectical historical materialism, of Marxian inspiration, for seeking to consider the contradictions and critical mediations that permeate the object of study from its historicity and totality, starting from the appearance to unveil the essence of the investigated reality. The work is constituted as a literature review on the proposed theme and has the main works of authors who discuss the subject in question, in this way the Classic works of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels was used, as well as works by José Paulo Netto, Marcelo Braz, Sérgio Lessa, Roberto Leher, Istiván Mészáros, Larissa Pereira, Marilena Chauí among other Marxian-based studies that guide this dissertation work. The works were essential for the development of the work, the access to the material was through the internet and access to the physical material, for this construction 84 works were read that were chosen by the similarity with the content and the critical content that constitute them and so on. contributed to the literary review, in addition to being referenced works within the scope of Social Work and correspond to the theoretical-methodological matrix that guides the work. The historical-dialectical materialist theoretical-methodological approach is processed around the following categories of analysis: work and professional training, inserted in the historical context of the inflections of the crisis of capitalism in late-bourgeois society that affect the privatization process, the precariousness of the work and the flexibilization of professional training within the scope of Distance Learning in Higher Education. Finally, the current teaching work was analyzed, with all its process of precariousness and exploitation by capitalism and it was concluded that there is an intense precariousness of teaching work today, mainly with the technological advance and in the remote modality and consequently to that. the downgrading of training in Social Work.
