Resumo: The choice of efficient solutions for sustainable building envelope systems, and intending to compete in the international competition for sustainable homes Solar Decathlon is a demanding challenge. In this sense, this research proposes to develop a metric of relative valuation, to qualitatively assess the degree of sustainability of materials and building envelope systems in compact housing projects, which serve as a method of choice of such technologies in the design stage. The object of research is justified based on the lack of simplified methods regarding the subject, and the initiative of participation at the aforementioned competition, by the LM + P Lab team, of UFPB, within which is inserted this work plan. The proposed method involves the systematic literature review on existing search procedures or technical evaluation / selection, as well as the adoption of categories, criteria and variables used to assess building materials and building envelope systems. In order to test the reliability of the proposed metric, pilot studies were carried out. The results show that it is possible to reduce partially the complexity of evaluating, simultaneously, social, economic and environmental issues, inherent in the holistic vision that guides the paradigm adopted by this research. Thus, through comparative and qualitative estimation of building technologies, it is possible to obtain subsidies for a more informed choice, in the design stage.
