Resumo: This research refers to the relation family learning, given that, considered the foundation of society and start point in the formation of personality, the family has been undergoing changes in its way of being. If before the matrimony was seen as indissoluble in the eyes of God and men, now the divorce is accepted as normal by society and it has its own laws to regulate it. However, as habitual as divorce has become, nowadays, separation of parents brings, at its very core, consequences and profound changes to all members of the family, being the children the most affected ones, in particular with respect to the learning process. Therefore, it will be approached on the theoretical basis the phenomenon of learning: history, theoretical and current concepts; the role of the school regarding family problems experienced by students and the importance of the integration family-school. To verify the consequences of separation of parents on the learning process of students of third grade of basic education, at public schools in João Pessoa, 15 respondents answered questionnaires with open and non-open questions. The results indicated that the separation of parents directly influences the learning process and behavior of students, in addition to emphasizing the importance of family and school bonding. It is concluded that although the number of students with separated parents is increasing, the school is not yet prepared to deal with this new reality, it hasn t thoroughly fulfilled its role in the process of giving support and preparing for life, considering that its function is much more than transmitting theoretical contents alone.
