This work aimed to investigate the process of transformation in the urban area of Açude Velho at Campina Grande - PB and its side effects on the landscape in this part of the city, which underwent an intense transformation process in the last years, mainly through high standard multifamily housing developments installed in the sector, an old area that had a concentration of factories and residences implanted in different periods of the twentieth century. Nowadays, real estate investments have become a new front for the expansion of financial capital, turning attractive to invest in the central area of Campina Grande, especially around Açude Velho. We demonstrate the strategies of speculation and real estate marketing, which, along with the market economy, has been specializing this stretch of the city for leisure, culture, tourism, innovation and especially high-standard housing, linking the area studied as an identity element of the city. Hence, one starts from the understanding of the production process of the area to comprehend the transformation of its landscape
